Chicago, Illinois. Our story begins on January 22, 2008. Early that morning a 70 foot section of Montrose Avenue collapsed to reveal the underworkings of modern society. No one was hurt, thankfully---as people like to say, things could have been a lot worse. The hole became known as Montrose Sinkhole.
The collapse was credited to a watermain break nearby. Some say that the collapse was inevitable, that nothing that could have been done to prevent it. Some people yearn for the days long before all of this happened. Others believe that a truth has been uncovered that no amount of construction could bury.
Things can never be the same again and it is time that respect is payed. Montrose Sinkhole taught us so many things. We were taught to love one another deeply. Even more, we were taught that holes have their place in things.
